My robot won't start or doesn't respond – what to do?
First aid when your robot stops responding.
Robot won't start or doesn't respond
There can be several reasons why your robot won't start or doesn't react when you press a button. Follow the steps below in order.
Step 1: Check the battery
- Place the robot on the dock (Home Base, Clean Base or AutoWash™ Dock) and wait at least 3–4 hours.
- Check whether the LED on the robot or dock lights up (e.g. pulsing white = charging).
- Make sure the dock's power adapter is plugged in and supplying power.
Step 2: Clean the charging contacts
- Clean the metal charging contacts on the underside of the robot and on the dock with a dry, lint-free cloth.
- Check that the contacts are properly aligned.
Step 3: Restart the robot
- Roomba i-series, j-series, s9, 100/200/400/500/700 series (new): Hold the CLEAN button for 10 seconds until all indicators light up. Release the button – a tone confirms the restart.
- Roomba 600 series, 800 series, 900 series, e5, e6: Hold the CLEAN button for 10 seconds.
- Roomba Combo: Hold the CLEAN button until the robot restarts.
- Braava 300 series: Hold the POWER button to turn the Braava off and on again.
- Braava Jet 250: Hold CLEAN for 5 seconds. Remove the battery and reinsert it.
- Braava Jet m-series: Hold the CLEAN button for 10 seconds.
Step 4: Check the battery (older models)
- For models with a removable battery (e.g. 600 series, 800 series, Braava 300 series, Braava Jet 250): Remove the battery, wait 1 minute and reinsert it.
- Check whether the battery is swollen or damaged. If so, replace it with a genuine iRobot battery.
