How to start, pause and stop your robot

All iRobot Roomba and Braava models can be controlled directly on the device or via the iRobot Home app. The exact operation differs depending on the generation.

New generation (Roomba 105, 205, Plus 405/505, Max 705)

  • Start: Tap the On/Off button on the robot once or press "Clean" in the Roomba® Home app.
  • Pause: Tap the On/Off button again. The robot stops and waits.
  • Resume: Tap the On/Off button once more or press "Resume" in the app.
  • Stop & send to dock: Press the HOME button. The robot returns to the dock.
  • Power off: Hold the On/Off button for 10 seconds.
  • SPOT mode: Tap the On/Off button twice to clean a single area in a spiral pattern.

i series (i1, i3, i5, i6, i7) & j series

  • Start: Press the CLEAN button or start via the app.
  • Pause: Tap CLEAN again (Start/Pause/Resume).
  • Stop & send to dock: Tap the Home button or hold CLEAN for 2–5 seconds (j series) or 3 seconds (i series).
  • SPOT mode: Tap the SPOT button (if available) for a spiral clean of approx. 1 m diameter.

s9 series

  • Start/Pause/Resume: Press the CLEAN button.
  • Send to dock: Press CLEAN, then DOCK.
  • Stop: Hold CLEAN until the indicators go out.

Roomba 600 series (WiFi) & 900 series

  • Start: Press CLEAN.
  • Pause: Press CLEAN again. Press once more to resume.
  • Send to dock: Press CLEAN, then DOCK – or via the iRobot HOME app.
  • Stop: Hold CLEAN until the indicators go out (standby).
  • SPOT cleaning: Press the SPOT button for a spiral clean of approx. 1 m.

Roomba 600 series (no WiFi), 800 series, e5, e6, 680

  • Start: Press CLEAN.
  • Pause: Press CLEAN again.
  • Send to dock: Press the DOCK button (if available).
  • SPOT cleaning: Press the SPOT button.

Braava Jet 250 & Braava 300 series

  • Start: Press the CLEAN button. The cleaning mode is automatically detected based on the pad inserted.
  • Pause: Press CLEAN again.
  • Stop: Hold CLEAN (Braava 300: switch off the device).

Automatic return

All models automatically return to the dock at the end of a cleaning job or when the battery is low. After 90 minutes of inactivity away from the dock, the robot automatically ends the cleaning job (applies to app-connected models).

We recommend controlling cleaning via the Roomba® Home app. There you can select rooms, create schedules and set up automations.
