What is the Home Base / Charging Station?
The Home Base automatically charges your Roomba – positioned correctly, it ensures reliable docking.
What is the Home Base?
The Home Base is the standard charging station for most Roomba models. It automatically charges your robot and serves as the starting point for cleaning jobs.
Home Base functions
- Automatic charging: Your Roomba automatically returns to the Home Base after cleaning or when the battery is low.
- Charging contacts: Metal contacts on the front connect to the robot.
- Infrared docking signal: Helps the Roomba find the charging station.
- Cable winding: Excess cable can be wound at the back.
Proper Home Base positioning
- Clearance on both sides: at least 0.5 m
- Clearance in front: at least 1.2 m
- Distance from stairs: at least 1.2 m (prevents falling)
- Level surface: The Home Base must be stable and level.
- Good Wi-Fi coverage: Important for Wi-Fi models for app connection.
- No direct sunlight: Can interfere with sensors.
LED indicator (on some models)
- Green solid: Roomba is fully charged
- Pulsing: Roomba is charging
- Red: Error (e.g., Roomba not docked correctly)
Difference from Clean Base
The Home Base only charges the robot. The Clean Base™ Automatic Dirt Disposal (on + models) also automatically empties the dustbin. More about Clean Base
