The main components of your Roomba

Your Roomba has various buttons, sensors, and indicators that vary by model. Here's an overview.

Buttons & controls

  • CLEAN button: Starts/stops cleaning (on all models)
  • SPOT button: Starts spot cleaning (concentrated cleaning in one area)
  • DOCK button: Sends Roomba back to charging station
  • HOME button: Alternative name for DOCK (depending on model)

Indicators & LEDs

  • Light ring / LED indicator: Shows status (charging, cleaning, error)
  • Battery indicator: Shows charge level (on older models)
  • Wi-Fi indicator: Shows Wi-Fi connection (on Wi-Fi models)

Sensors

  • Cliff sensors: Prevent falling down stairs
  • Bumper sensors: Detect obstacles
  • Dirt Detect™ sensors: Detect particularly dirty areas (on selected models)
  • Camera: For navigation and mapping (on 900, i-, j-, s-series)

Brushes & cleaning system

  • Side brush: Cleans corners and edges
  • Main brushes: Bristles (on 500–700 series) or rubber extractors (on 800+ series)
  • Dustbin: Collects dirt
